San Diego - United States, California Panoramic view of San Diego The plaque is in honour of the Portuguese sailor Cabrillo who, under the Spanish service, was the first European to land in California. Later on they came many others, among them the most important was the Spanish Father Junipero Serra, who founded many missions in California (there are 21).
