Saint Petersburg should be nominated the Eight Wonder of the World. It is, without any doubt, the most charming and beautiful town in Russia (if not in Europe).
Saint Petersburg has been named “The Venice of the North”, “The city of the 100 islands”, and so on, but none of these nicknames make justice to this unique city in the whole world.
One of the most original ways to explore Saint Petersburg is by boat, but they only operate in summer time (in winter the waters of the River Neva and its tributaries are frozen).
The trip lasts around one and a half hours and will take you around many islands, rivers (Neva, Fontanka, Moika), some of its 300 bridges and canals. A guide will explain you (po Russki, kaniechna) all the places traversed.
You will admire many old buildings, such as palaces, museums, a fortress (Saint Peter and Paul), churches, cathedrals, and even a mosque (opened in the year 1913, financed by the Emir of Bukhara) with strong eastern reminiscences.
