After my first trip through eastern Tibet in 1992 I came back in 1997 to see the western part.
After exploring Kathmandu (1300 m) we flew to Lhasa (3600 m). From the 3 days in Lhasa I spent 2 in the bed because I suffered from acute mountain sickness.Thats why I uploaded some pictures from the trip in 1992. From Lhasa we travelled by car via Yamdrok Lake - Gyantse - Shigatse to Lhatse. From there we followed the northern route via Gêrzê - Shiquan He - Toling to Darchen. We hiked then around Mt. Kailas, the main goal of our journey. After visiting Manasarowar Lake we continued to Burang and then crossed the border to Nepal in Siar. After a 5 day trekking along the Karnali river we reached Simikot from where we flew back to Kathmandu via Nepalganj.
Get an impression of the beautiful, remote landscapes and sacred places in my first slideshow.
