I went with my family on a cruise at the Kochi backwaters in Vakkom at the end of May. It was arranged by a reputed tour company and turned out to be an incredible experience. Nothing in this world can rejuvenate a modern day stressed person better than a lazy cruise through Kochi backwaters in a traditional 'Vallam' (boat) with the whole world standing still around you. This cruise started in Vakkom around 22 kms away from Kochi and went on for about three and a half hours. Cost was Rs 300 per head. The price included transportation to Vakkom by car, services of trained guides and visits to the villages around to see local life and of course complimentary tender coconut drinks.
