The town of Luang Prabang is the best preserved in south east Asia and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1995. The town is quiet but also very beautiful.
The ancient royal city is surrounded by mountains at the junction of the Mekong and its tributary, the Khan river. In the centre of the city is Mount Phousi with stunning views of the surrounding temples and hills.
Sunset over the Mekong has to be seen to be believed.
Luang Prabang is a city where time seems to stand still; with it's many temples and resident monks it makes for an interesting visit with some amazing photo opportunities.
At 6am every day a procession of monks can be seen collecting offerings or alms from the villagers.
There are also some great day excursions from the town including the Xiang Sae waterfall, Pak Ou cave and the traditonal whiskey and paper making villages along the Mekong. [edit text][editors]
