Hotel Monte Kristo
The hotel is in one of the old merchants' houses, has L-shaped rooms with ensuite bathroom which is always heated, also in the height of summer, by the central town system.
Breakfast is a true feast, an abundance of fresh fruit, a choice of hot dishes including pancakes filled with apple and cinnamon or fresh white cheese.

Kolonade
This collonaded pavillion built in 1924 with outdoor seating is on the edge of the Old Town. It summer it is very pleasant to sit in the shade of huge sun umbrellas, and enjoy the view ofs of the national Opera and do some people watching as the adjoining City park with its elegant nymph fountain is a place where people like to take a stroll.
They serve a wide choice of reasonably priced dishes, much more than the adverised pizzas.

Russian Church of Christ Nativity
North of Brivibas Bulvaris is Esplanade, a shady park with lime trees. On the south side of this park the Russian Cathedral of Christ Nativity built in the 19th century for the city's Russian community.
The outside is mediocre, but the inside is worth more than a peek. It has recently been renovate. The walls are decked out with a maroon and green swirly pattern.
The church furnishing is elaborate as is customary in Russian churches. You will have to go yourself to see this splendour as taking photos is not allowed. more

Konventa Sēta
Konventa Sēta is next to St John's Church, right in the centre of Riga and used to be a Dominican monastry.
Konventa Sēta, Convent Court, consists of numerous well-restored passages lined with paste-coloured medieval houses.
The hotel is a complex of 9 medieval buildings dating back to the 14th and 16th centuries, but offering modern comfort in its 141 rooms.
In the hotel's basement is a souvenir and handicraft shop with a large choice of silver jewellery, traditional knitwear, hand-embroidered linen and amber.

Radi un Draugi
Radi and Draugi ( relatives and friends) is within walking distance of the train and bus stations, and right in Riga's Old Town.
Relatives and Friends is an excellent name for this excellent hotel with friendly atmosphere. There is a good selection of Engl;ish newspapers in the lounge and a vast range of tourist brochures and a very knowledgeable staff.
It is a 3* hotel with 77 rooms on 3 floors. Spacious en-suite rooms with light-wood furniture, satellite TV and telephone. Some rooms have balconies.
The street is attractive during the day but gets noisy at night because of night clubs and bars in this district. more

Menzendorff House
Menzendorff House, built in 1695, is a beautifully restored merchants' house and now a museum.
After WW II it was divided into flats, not maintained properly and fell into decay.
In the 1980s it was restored to its former glory: wooden floors, trellised windows and Baroque furniture.
The museum gives a good impression of how rich merchants lived
The museum is closed on Monday and Tuesday. Open all other days of the week from 10am – 5 pm. Entry Ls 1.50. (€ 2.20) more
Hotel Riga
Riga Hotel is a rectangular granite block opposite the National Opera. In Soviet days it used to be an Intourist Hotel, but since then it has been transformed into a comfortable 4* hotel. Its architecture is typical Soviet style and built for utility not for beauty.
It is a six-storey building and has some 250 rooms. There are all comforts you wish for including a sauna and a casino.

Riga Backpackers Hostel
Very centrally located(middle of Riga Old Town) and cheap hostel. Very clean and well maintained. Breakfast not included but prices very reasonable.
Only bad point is that hostel is located above bar/strip club.....no problems week nights as VERY loud music finishes about midnight, weekends however music goes until 4-5am. Not too good if you have early Sunday morning flight! more
