The Norias (wooden water wheels) were constructed to scoop the water from the river and deposit it into aqueducts, which then chanelled it to nearby fields and gardens.

are they still working? I ve heard that they not running anymore. the time I have been to Hamah we could hear the typical"tuc, tuc, tuc..." all over the city

Ralph, they are not working anymore, unfortunately. Or maybe I was only in the bad part of the year. It would be great to see them working
