Ranomafana is a small village in the primary forest of central Madagascar. It is a gateway to the Ranomafana National Park, one of the most important parks in Madagascar. It was here that the world science has been stunned with the discovery of previously unknown species of lemur - the golden bamboo lemur - in late 20th century. This lemur does not live anywhere else in the world or on the island. It is elusive and rare. Only two or three sightings are reported a year. Ranomafana NP is a great place to spot also other species of lemur, like the tiny mouse lemur as well as the fosa, an intriguing and unique animal - half dog half cat. Ranomafana is accessible by public transport but the road is very bad and in wet weather transport would crawl very slowly. [edit text][editors]
