Ile Sainte Marie (local name: Nosy Boraha) is a delightful little island off the east coast of Madagascar, the closest place to a rustic paradise. Its location gives it unique micro-climate, which means that it can rain on the island any time, really. Ile Sainte Marie is much longer than it is wider. Its west coast beaches are much better than their counterparts on the eastern part. The other side is dominated by cliffs and rough ocean waters. The northern part of the island is wilder, has little facilities but also has slightly better beaches. The southern part, where the airstrip is, boasts picturesque villages and a number of really good accommodation options, some of which (e.g. Lakana) have huts directly on the water, linked by wooden walkways with the island. The islanders are exceptionally friendly, which makes Nosy Boraha a perfect place to relax. There is not much to do on the island. Its capital is small and apart from old church and pirates' cemetery, has no sights. [edit text][editors]
