Djenne is perhaps Mali's most remarkable town, easily rivaling the legenday Timbuktu. Djenne was built from mud brick and boast incredible African Muslim architecture. There are many houses, remains of the ancient wall, gates and official buildings all constructed in a consistent style. It is exceptionally picturesque. The most important sight of Djenne is its Grand Mosque, world's largest mud-brick structure. A few nearby houses allow tourists on the roofs to take some great shots. The weekly market is also very colourful and animated. The town is used to travellers and there are a number of places to stay and eat but they are superbly merged with the atmosphere of the place and none of the stand out obviously that their purpose is different from the buildings around.
