Surf Club
Downstairs you can rent a surf board, upstairs is a cafe with a large terrace and the best view of Sidi Kaouki beach. The place is covered in murals, both on the inside and on the outside. Not sure what lunch and dinner are like, but we had a very nice breakfast, more
km8 (kilometre huit)
Blink and you miss this lovely restaurant when you drive past on the road out of Essaouira towards Agadir. At km8, tucked in between a shop selling whicker furniture and some other single storey businesses, it is easy to miss, but it would be a shame. You think 'there can't be much behind that door', but you step from the dusty street into flower-filled courtyard and a beautifully decorated, fairly large restaurant. The French/Maroccan food is lovely, the service attentive. more
Chez Sam
This restaurant has been around for a long time and has become an institution in Essaouira. Right in the harbour itself, overlooking the coming and goings of the boats, from the outside it looks like a wooden shack on, on the inside it's like sitting on a ship itself. The fish is perfectly prepared and there is plenty of choice when you order a la carte, but there's also a set menu. more
Ocean Vagabond Cafe
Laid back beach cafe a little way out of town (half an hour walk), right next to the Club Mistral that rents out surfing gear and the sand dunes where you can go camel or horse riding. Perfect for a light snack or a cold drink. The only shame is that it closes at 18.00h, it would be perfect to watch the sun set. more
Patisserie Driss
This patisserie was founded in 1925 and sells the most delicious baked goods. You can either eat in the cafe (the walls are covered in photos and paintings) or the little courtyard or if you prefer to peoplewatch take your purchases to one of the cafes in place Moulay Hassan. more
Taros Bar
Upstairs from Taros restaurant is this roof terrace bar, possibly one of Essaouira's trendiest spots. Spread out over 2 floors afre comfortable seats, lots of plants and at night many candles. At the weekend there are live bands (don't arrive too late, they finish their set at 22.30h) and DJs. The cocktails aren't cheap, but large and very tasty. Try the Gnaoua Sunset - tequila, strawberry liquor and grapefruit juice. It comes highly recommended. more
Taros Restaurant
Much more than just a restaurant, this place is also a bar, a boutique, an art gallery and a literary cafe filled with books about Morocco. There are three dining rooms and the main one is the most spectacular one, covered in mosaics from floor to ceiling. The building is nearly 200 years old and it has been beautifully preserved. The food is French/Moroccan, beautifully prepared and presented and served by friendly waiters.
A real treat. more

Sirocco
Sirocco is a cheerful, friendly place just behind place Moulay Hassan. The French manager is quite a character and love chatting to her customers. Be careful not to mention that you have any special talents or you might find yourself performing in front of everybody. While we were there she persuaded a customer to sing French chansons and our landlady told us, she got a friend of hers performing Scottish reels and jigs! On the first day we ate there, on a Sunday, there was also magician, who was rather brilliant. I still don't know where he conjured those 3 lemons up from.
Oh yes, and the food (Moroccon/French) is very good, too! I tried the tagine Berbere (mince) and the lamb tagine with prunes. more
Villa Argana Essaouira Morocco

Residence Vent des Dunes
It is a small and comfortable guest house located outside the medina. The room was spacious and the breakfast on the terrace was the best among all. Rate was reasonable comparing to raids inside the medina. The only pitfall was the humidity in our bathroom couldn't really get out after the shower that made the bedroom quite humid too. more
