The giant Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou is one of Morocco's main sites for Hollywood film sets. All of the kasbah's inhabitants can comfortably claim that they had starred in at least one film. This desert kasbah is partially in ruin and the local community does not live in luxury. It is a remarkable site. The Moroccans claim that one had not seen the real Morocco unless one comes to see Ait Ben Haddou. The kasbah is listed by UNESCO as one of the World's Cultural Heritage Sites. It is rather tricky to get there for the independent travellers as it is located almost in the middle of nowhere, and public transport is almost non-existent. One can theoretically stay within the kasbah's walls, but there are no facilities. [edit text] [editors]
