Swakopmund travel tips

Dunes Backpackers Lodge
Not really a pub but a hostel, we stopped there for dinner. The have a nice bar with an indoor swimming pool. It located between the sea and the main shopping area. They served up a nice fish barbaque with fresh bread. The seating is either slouching on the comfy chairs or around the large picnic tables. My only concern was dogs and food preparation doesn't really mix in my books. more

Swakopmund Brauhaus
For a German experience visit the Brauhaus; located in the open air mall in he middle of Swakopmund. It decorated with a loot of wood almost like a pub. But a lively place to eat. more

Karakulia Weavers
Not really a museum but they weave on site and gives demonstrations, which I found very interesting. In Swakopmund you grasp at straws to keep yourself ocuppied more

Da African Style
Another great day out, they take you out into the desert and provide lunch. It's possible to lie down on a board or stand up like snowboarding. Basically you can have as many goes as you can walk up a dune. A really good day. more

Dersert Skydiving Adventure
Something you have to do at least once in your lifetime is a skydive; it is an incredible experience. This is also a fun day out if you don't want to do the jump - you can go to support some of your friends who do. more

Napolitana Restaurant
Lovely Italian restaurant, that serves nice pizzas but great oryx steaks, so good we ate there twice. more

Swakopmund Museum
This turned out to be a really good experience, the museum examines the first settles as well as artifacts that shreds light on Namibia's past. There are also exhibits on nocturnal animals etc. But for a relatively small town with not much else to do, its worth a visit. more

Outback Orange
The sunset quadbike is the most popular, as you roar through the sand dunes, as you reach the coast the views are wonderful. It is an incredible experience from start to finish - more power. They also do sandboarding and skydiving. more

Swakop Lodge
Interesting accomodation, a basic backpack. The rooks sleep six and the bunk bed were small and rooms a little cramped. The facitlities were good with a restaurtn cafe, bar, secure parktin and a laundry service. They had internet, it was a little slow, but that's the way it is in Africa. more

O'Kelley's
One of the few places clustered near one another, where party continues until wee hours of the morning. The door policy can be unpredictable but once you get in, you still need to queue several people deep at the bar to order your drinks - order a few rounds at a time. more

Tug
The other best place for seafood in Swakopmund. Their seafood platter is not cheap, but is finger-licking good! The location and ocean views are nice, too. It has brilliant bar as well. more

Lighthouse Pub & Cafe
One of the two best places in the town to have seafood. Lobster here is definitely best value and delicious. Cold beer complements the meals beautifully. more

Alternative Space
One of the friendliest places in Swakopmund. Frenus & Sybille run this place and do a free grill for all the patrons on one night a week. They have dorm beds as well as private rooms. They offer lifts to the centre. The showers are open air and the proximity of the sand dunes makes it a great location. more

Villa Wiesse Hostel
Close to the action and close to the beach. Nice, new and really clean. Bathroom inside and breakfast included. Just at the yellow wall. Easy to find. Dorm 6$ / Room 18$. more
