Travel guide to Walvis Bay

Walvis Bay, well known for its fishing industry, lies on the west coast of Africa, in Namibia, is the country's major harbour town.
It is surrounded by desert with high dunes, with the famous Dune 7 close by.
The lagune has prolific birdlife, a desert golf course and very nice hotels. B&B's right next to the lagune are also recommended.
Lots of watersport - kitesurfing, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing and sailing, horseriding and angling. Close by is Swakopmund where you can do skydiving. Once a year, September/October is the Windsurfing speedweek which is extremely popular and attract visitors from all over the world. The world record for windsurfing has been reached here in Walvis Bay. Recommended are the boat trips out to Pelican Point to watch our seals, dolphins and sunstars. If lucky, you may see a whale family.

Wonderful 4x4 trips are organised to visit the desert and see the oldest plant in the world, the Welwitschia.
