Travel guide to Molde

Arriving at the Fishing Museum

Molde is on Norway's west coast on the north bank of the very wide fjord named after it. It's connected by bus with Ålesund and with Kristiansund, although for motorists the drive along the Atlantic Highway is to be preferred for the latter connection.
It is noted for the International Jazz Festival held annually in July and for the number of high peaks that can be seen in good weather from its park.
Unlikely as it may sound, the Fishing Museum, situated on a small island a short boat ride away is an absolute must-see, a real revelation of the past life of fishermen during the season. In each house there were more fishermen staying than you could believe possible and a sort of sofa doubled up as a bed for the one female in the house, the maid and cook.
You can also visit the manager's house, which is of course totally different in nature.
There is a ferry across the fjord from Molde that can be used to link with the bus to Ålesund. [edit text] [editors]
