Kant explains: Peace isn't a natural human condition, therefore peace has to be promoted by politics. That can be done in two ways: either by human understanding - that doesn't seem to happen, as we just learned - or by conflicts and catastrophes of such an extent that we don't have another choice. We are at a crossroad - that's the actual situation as we are told. As hope never dies, I nevertheless wish you a thoughtful Christmas and a peace promoting new year.
