Hi all,

One of my passions when travelling is visiting ancient monuments and sites.

I thought I would kick this discussion off listing my top 5 favourites along with my top 5 wishlist. This so tough because this is not counting the various castles etc from the middle ages.

Top 5 favourites:

1. Machu Picchu - Peru. Without a doubt the most amazing of all.

2. Palenque in Mexico.

3. Teoteohuacan - near Mexico City

4. Chitchen Itza - in Mexico

5. Colosseum in Rome

6. Acropolis in Athens

7. Stonehenge in England

Sorry I couldn't stop at 5.

Top 5 Wish List:

1. Angkor Wat in Cambodia

2. Tikal in Guatemala

3. Pyramids in Egypt

4. Ephesus in Turkey

5. Taj Mahal in India

What are yours?

I know there are loads more.

Cheers,

Kerrie

Kerrie,

I really enjoyed some of the same that you have mentioned. Most of my experiences have been with the Mayan culture, however. Here is my list:

1. Macchu Picchu (Peru) (Inca)

2. Uxmal (Mexico - Yucatan)

3. Tikal (Guatemala)

4. Chichen Itza (Mexico - Yucatan)

5. Palenque (Mexico - Chiappas)

6. Cahokia Mounds (United States - Illinois) (Mississipian, or Illini tribes)

It would be great to visit some of the other places that you mentioned in your wish list, especially some of the places in Egypt.

An impressive list. I have put some of the site on my one-day-to-go-to list:

The best I ever saw was:

the ruined city of Palmyra in Syria

These are the next best:

Petra (Jordan)

Borobudur (Indonesia)

Ephesus (Turkey)

Cartago (Tunisia)

And many more but I stop at five.
