Hunza is said to be the valley of longevity. The first people that settled here were soldiers of the army of Alexander the Great who crossed the Hindukush, the Himalayan range into China. They are still recognized by their blue eyes and blonde hair.
Karimabad is the main city of the valley dominatied by a fort overlooking the city. Some of the most incredible mountain scenery (7000-8000m) surrounds the city; Rakaposhi, Diran and Spantik/Golden Peak, all snowcaped and rising into the blue skies. Most of the villages are following the ismaili islam, a very open minded branch of islam. Prince Karim Aga Khan is the living leader, considered to be the 49th imam since 1957.
The area is accessible by road transport from Gilgit only, or via Karakoram Highway from China, were (lots of) foreigners take up the challenge of traveling on bicycle. [edit text]  [editors]
