Language skills come with practice. Immerse yourself in English as much as possible. The best way to learn it is to use it. Some people can only use language to make sarcastic or tasteless jokes, those are the bad teachers. The good ones will support your efforts and help you have fun with the language rather than pin point your mistakes and make you feel stupid.

It can be learned, and it can be fun too! What's your main motivation, why do you want to learn it? Find that! The more you will love the language, the easiest it will be for you to add this language to your registry.

Good luck.

You have presented a nice question, Dipaks. Here at Globo, we have active members from many locations and with diverse language skills. Most, that I know, are multilingual. I suggest that you place a strand in this forum asking for help in whatever language that you wish to have more information about. We can all help you to improve with whatever you require.

In Globo community many of us speak different languages and even more to say

Different dialects .For me per say it is also very difficult to write in English, even though

I live in the States for almost half of my life .I can speak much better ,then I can write.

I always check my writing with the spell check –the option all computes can

Offer to us ,also I have pretty good dictionaries, I always refer to dictionaries if I have

To find the right word .Yes speaking and writing in a different tongue is a challenge for

Many of us ,I do agree .My advise to all of you-read and speak as much as you can ,don’t be afraid of your mistakes-we all have them.

Best to all of you

I agree with many of the other posts here and personally feel that the first step towards learning is identifying what you want to learn/improve upon.

More philosophically...life is a continuous learning process.

The best way to improve a language is to read extensively and write. Try conversing in the language you want to learn or improve and as Boris says.. .

"don’t be afraid of your mistakes-we all have them"

There is a website too that helps with English Grammer, maybe worth looking at http://www.englishforums.com/

try writing your reports in MS Word first, it does a decent job with spellings and grammer.

Take Care

Thanks for the advice to all of us, Akhila. Also to you, Boris. The idea that we should not be embarrassed by errors is well-founded. We all need to understand that there are many here on Globo who are willing to help us with language difficulties, regardless the language.

Akhila, your mention of the website is a wonderful example of how we can help each other. ALso, your advise that we need to know what we want before we can best ask for help.

Boris, I wish that there were sufficient space to discuss with you the theories about language acquisition skills. It is normal that a person can learn to speak a language at a moderate fluency within two years of extreme immersion. However, to get the reading and writing skills to the same level takes from four to five years. Expertise at a technical level (such as that needed for technical papers or for a heavy academic paper - university level) can take a person as much as seven years of complete immersion within a culture and language. Even though there are exceptions to this rule, these are the latest numbers based on research into language acquisition.

That said, we all need to help each other with the languages when we are asked. Dipaks, do not worry. You are doing well. If you need more help, please ask us.

I will try improve myself, Cee you are right "practice makes man perfect". Bear thanks for your kind-helping theme and I don't hesitate to remember for help.

Really GLOBO is a great community; it is getting success to make virtual community even far places and different country's people, which make us further close.
