Ollantaytambo [sometimes called Ollentaytambo] is one of the villages in the Sacred Valley of the Incas near to the start of the Inca Trail.
It is a most pleasant village but owes much of its popularity to two specific facts, one being its position.
The other concerns its own ruins, a most impressive series of terraces, tombs created, goodness knows how, in the rock cliff and buildings at the bottom where it's possible to trace the water supply and drainage of the old Inca stronghold.
On the cliff between two tombs is a natural area of rack reminiscent of a man's face. The only man engineered bit is a jewel inserted as a single eye. [edit text][editors]
