Spanish era mansions, cobblestone streets and kalesa (horse drawn carriages) are the hallmarks of historic city of Vigan. Miraculously spared bombings in WWII, the city is considered the finest surviving example of a Spanish colonial twon in Asia. In 1999, Vigan has been subscribed to Unesco World Heritage site. Vigan's old town - Msitzo district - contains the largest concentration of ancestral homes and other colonial era architecture. The colonial mansion here were built by Chinese merchants who settled, intermaried and, by the 19th century became the city's elite. Mena Crisologo street is a backbone of the old town, where the most mansions are locted.
