Krakow, the former capital, is the third largest city in Poland, is both historic and beautiful. The old town is enclosed in a green belt, with lots of churches, theatres, galleries and museums. It is also a city with a university so there are many young people around and you are never to far from a drink, with many restaurants, bars and off licences to open to obtain cheap beer and vodka.
Wawel Castle was once the residence of kings, the Market Square with Cloth Hall in the centre famed for selling textiles; the Barbican – the finest example of medieval defence architecture, the old city wall with Florian’s Gate; and then there is the Jewish quarter – Kazimierz, filled with synagogues, Jewish bookshops, cafes and restaurants. Remarkable!
The city's name is spelt in many ways: Cracow, Krakau, Krakov and Krakow. If you need information about the city also look at the other names as reports and tips have been entered under these names as well. [edit text][editors]
