Wroclaw (or Breslau in German) is a large city in the south of the country and close to the Czeck border. The centre is dominated by the Rynek, the central square, surrounded by colourful town houses, cafés, restaurants and shops. The townhall takes pride of place and features an astronomical clock.
The Gnomes of Wroclaw are quite famous and scattered across the old town in unexpected places. They are comic little bronze sculptures made by a local artist.
Wroclaw's best-known sight is The Panorama of the Battle of Raclawice. It is a circular painting which makes the viewer believe that he stands in the middle of the battle. [edit text][editors]
