French Polynesia is a large and small country at the same time. Large it is as the 118 islands which make up the 5 archipelagoes occupy an ocean area of nearly 5 million square km. But the total area of emerged land is nothing but 6500 sq km, i.e. 6 times as big as the island of Tahiti alone.
Let's start the visit with Papeete, the capital city of this French Overseas of the Pacific; papeete is not a sprawling capital. It only counts some 26000 inhabitants.
But all the visitors coming to our islands start or end up their stay sightseeing in Papeete which is just 3 miles away from the Tahiti-Faa'a International Airport.
