Janeiro, the shortest name (although nearby is another village called Janeiro de Baixo!), is a small village, in Fundão, Castelo Branco district. It is known for its houses made of stones (schist and some stones from the river).
The Zêzere river makes the summer a good time to visit this village. Here you will find Casa das Tecedeiras (The Weavers’ House) and a good restaurant with traditional food.
Nearby is Barragem de Santa Luzia (an artificial lake), Serra da Lousã, Serra da Estrela, Minas da Panasqueira (volframium mining) and other schist villages. [edit text][editors]
