Travel guide to Piton de La Fournaise
Lava
Lava "shell"
The Piton De La Fournaise is one of the most active volcano of the planet at 2632m. The volcano erupts about 1.5 times a year. The volcano is from the "Hawaiian type", it means it is a basaltic volcano, and represents little danger, it does not explode like the types of volcanoes such as the Stromboli. The Piton de La Fournaise thick lava flow will follow a set course in an enclosure and will sometimes end its course in the ocean. When the volcano is not in eruption; visitors can walk freely in the border of the crater, the path starts from Pas De Belcombe, a village situated further down. When in eruption, depending of the intensity, the crater will usually be closed to the public, but you can still walk around the crater on a path further away. [edit text]  [editors]
