Novosibirsk travel tips

Internet Club
The best interne in town! The whole night, from 10 PM to 7 AM will cost you only 100 rubles. They also serve soups (chinese) and drinks, including chai and coffee, for a few rubles. You can even sleep on the table. There is a toilet too. IOt is best to spend the night there than in any hotel, where you will pay about 1000 rubles per night if you are a foreigner and do not know Russian language. more

Azimut Intour
Nice staffs, all girls, who will look for the best tickets by train or airplane anywhere. They will also invite you to drink chai while you wait. more

Vostochnaya Kukhnia
Excellent modest resyaurant close to the railway station. The owner (he is my good friend), Tokhtaali Ablakhatovich, is from Kashgar, Sinkiang, China, and also speaks chinese. The food is from Central Asia, very cheap and good quality. Mante and plov are the specialities. more

Teatr Operi i Baleta
This is the greatest theatre in Russia, more than the Bolshoi in Moscow, and the dome is beautiful, erected without the support of columns. If you happen to travel to Novosibirsk, please, do not miss a performance in it! Besides, it is very cheap and they do not discriminate foreigners making them pay from five to ten times more (as they do in Moscow and Saint Petersburg). The cultural atmosphere in its interior is admirable. Children adore theatre and go proudly and very nicely dressed with their parents. The quality of its actors has nothing to envy to any other theatre in Russia. There you will be able to watch Giselle of Adolphe Adams, Carmen of Bizet, Eugene Onegin, The Sleeping Beauty, or listen wonderful musical compositions by Prokofiev and Rakhmaninov. more

Stolovaya Vilka Lojka
It is very cheap, self service, but good food. Many students. They serve borsh, blinis with smetana, fish with cheese, solianka, Chicken by Kiev style, pelmenie from Siberia, many pirashkis, georgian khachapuri, itd, etc. It is located in front of the Opera and Ballet. Very convenient if you have a ticket to watch Giselle or Sevilla barber. more

Trevelers Kofe Klub
It is not cheap, about 60 roubles a capuchi, while in the ordinary cafeterias costs about 20 roubles, but the place is wonderful, in the central boulevard, in front of a chapel. They serve coffee from Guatemala, Ethiopia, Colombia, etc. The name in english is Travellers Coffee, but Russians change it in their language as Trevelers. more

Novosibirskaya Kartinnaya Galereya
Nikolai Roerich was a Russian painter who travelled extensively around the Himalayas, Altai, Tibet, Mongolia, etc, looking for Shangri-la or Shambhala. Finally he found it, but was not in the Himalayas, but inside himself. He donated 60 of his Himalaya paintings to Novosibirsk because he was convinced that near Novosibirsk, in the Altai Mountains, near the peak Belukha and Osera Teletskoye (lake), there is a fabled town called Belovodie, where still today live in secrecy, isolated, many Old Believers (Orthodox Christians who rejected the reforms of Patriarch Nikon in the XVII century). According to the legend you can find this town without realizing that it is Belovodie if your heart is not pure. The museum costs 80 roubles for Russians, you just say ODIN (pronounced like Adin), and get Russian price. My favourite Roerich painting is Santana. more
