Travel guide to Peterhof
St. Peter and Paul's Cathedral
St. Peter and Paul's Cathedral
Peterhof (or Petergof) is a district of Saint Petersburg around 25km west of the city centre, which was founded by Peter I or aka Peter the Great.

The town is located on the southern shores of the Gulf of Finland and is home to the St Petersburg State University and a leading Russian watch factory, but also home to the famous Peterhof Palaces and Gardens which was built to rival the Palace of Versailles after Peter I visited Paris. It has a series of palaces, gardens and wonderful fountains. The grand cascade shouldn't be missed which is located in the lower gardens.

To get to Peterhof take the local shuttle (424 or 224) from Avtovo metro station, which takes around 30 mins depending on the traffic. Or the hydrofoil from near the Winter Palace. [edit text]  [editors]
