Djoudj - Pelican and two cormorants
Parc National des Oiseaux du Djoudj is second most important birds sanctuary on this planet, that has been discovered to date. It is the most important wintering site for the European birds known to science yet. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The most visible of the 400+ species of the birds are cormorants and pelicans, but also flamingos and a few species of herons. All birds are wild but they let humans approach relatively close.

Escapades to the park are easily organised from tourist offices in Saint-Louis, some 60 km south-west of the site, or through any of the hotels. One could drove up to the wetland independently but the park is not signposted and one would have to hire a boat to see the park. There are not many boats on standby in the park, and those, which station there are usually booked by the tour agents. For one person, though it should be relatively easy to join a larger group.
