Nurnberg - Germany, Bayern The iconic image of Nurnberg features the Holy Ghost Hospital built in the 1330's and expanded over one branch of the Pegnitz river in the 16th C. Destroyed in WWII, it was rebuilt and today houses an upscale restaurant and a nursing home.
The importance of the building is as the repository of the Reichskleinodien or Relics of the Holy Roman Emperor which established his legitimacy as ruler. First placed here by Emperor Sigismund in the 14th C they were removed for safekeeping with the approach of Napoleon's armies and ended in Vienna. Adolf Hitler returned them to Nurnberg after the Anschluss in 1939 where they remained until Gen George Patton personally returned them to Vienna after WWII.
The picture is exposed from the Maxbrucke on Konigstrasse.
