Amsterdam - Netherlands, Noord-Holland Proof positive of Amsterdam's reputation as a city of tolerance, the Homomonument was the first of its kind in the world, built to commemorate 50000 homosexuals arrested by the Nazis of whom many would die in the camps. Actually a large triangle comprised of smaller pink triangles ( the color of patches worn in the camps ) only the triangle projecting into the Keisersgracht is conspicuous, the others at or just above ground level behind the Westermark church.
