Chachapoyas to Iquitos

mma1029 Joined: Aug 08 Points: 12 Posts: 3 Posted: 2008-08-19 13:10:00    I was thinking: direct bus from Chachapoyas to Lima (22hrs). From Lima I fly to Iquitos. Does this sound like a good strategy? Is there a cheaper way? I don't mind adding a extra few days to my trip for this. and... Is $1000 enough of a budget for a 15-day trip to Peru? (not including MachuPicchu). We will be sleeping at hostels and aren't too concerned with comfort. But we do want to live safely. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
