Galapagos Islands - Land or Sea?

Land or Sea? Te small cruise ships are much more expensive than the Land based trips but you appear to see a lot more. I would want to include some diving which would definitely lend itself to a boat based tour. What are your experiences? Thanks! But my friend done the cruise a few years ago and she couldn't stop raving about her trip.
