This is an especially interesting archeological site, as it is one the the largest (and most mystical) of the ancient Mayan cities. One writer has described Tikal as the most powerful religious site on the planet Earth. Tikal is located on the Northeastern corner area of the country of Guatemala. It is not a difficult journey. As for Guatemala city, there is just not as much to see in that area (in my opinion). Bear --- "Own only what you can carry with you; know language, know countries, know people. Reply    Reply with quote    Contact wojtekd   jahlive Joined: Aug 03 Points: 12 Posts: 2 Posted: 2003-08-07 05:53:00    i would definitely go to champe if you can get there- its a river that disappears below ground and between where it goes under and resurfaces there are crystal clear pools you can swim in. the region is very mountainous and there are caves nearby. the highlands are awesome scenary but i have only drive through so not sure where you'd want to go/stop. I agree with wojtekd although you should definitely add Livingston with a trip to Siete Altares. I also loved the hot waterfalls at the Finca El Paraiso, close to Rio Dulce. If you go to Tikal don´t stay in Flores but in El Remate as it is a lot more quiet and beautiful there (unless you wann be surrounded by tourists). Don´t miss the market in Chichicastenango....
