Is this a reasonable budget for the things on the list, considering I will be there in peak season?

(--Not including food or lodging--)

I'm a first-time female backpacker, and i'm going with my cousin, another first-timer. We're currently planning a 3-wk Peru trip for August 2009. I will be booking all of these locally as day-trips from each city.

$20 Chachapoyas: Kuelap ruins

$20 Chachapoyas: Karajia mummies

$20 Chachapoyas: Gocta falls

$15 Lima: City tour

$59 Iquitos: Bora tribe/jungle tour

$10 Iquitos: Belen floating village

$15 Ica: Huacachina sandboarding

$70 Nazca: Nazca/Palpa lines overflight

$ 7 Arequipa: Mummy Juanita

$30 Arequipa: Colca Canyon/Calera springs

$20 Puno: Uros reed islands

$20 Cusco: Sacsayhuaman

$20 Cusco: Pisaq market/Ollantaytambo

$10 Cusco: Local homestay

Thanks a lot!

Maggie :D

Hi Maggie,

The only one that looks out of whack is Sacsayhuaman. It is right on the edge of Cusco - you can walk there from the main plaza very easily and safely. The ruins themselves are easy to do self guided, especially with so many resources available on the internet. There are some ruins beyond Sacsayhuaman that can also be easily walked with a map.

We booked a Sacred Valley tour that included Chincero as well as Pisaq and Ollentatambo. Chincero is quick but very interesting.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I think I will check out Chinchero.

Was the tour you did something that could be arranged locally from Cusco? :P

Yes - we arranged it at one of the MANY travel agencies on the Plaza de Armas. We literally booked it and got on the mini bus!

Have a great trip - that part of the world is fascinating!
