Travel guide to Ciudad Rodrigo

Ciudad Rodrigo is a city south of Salamanca and only a bit over an hour's bus ride away. It is not as near to the Portuguese frontier as Badajoz or Tuy but still counts as a frontier town. The bus parks outside the walled city and it's a bit like going back in time as you walk through the gates.
There is a general air of slightly faded old time gentility, which is enhanced by the 18th century buildings and the very numerous coats of arms.
The Plaza Mayor is nothing like the magnificent one in Salamanca but still provides a really pleasing place to stop for a coffee or more and watch the world going [and not generally rushing] by.
Th Cathedral is quite striking but you may like best the wonderful stone carving around the pillars in its cloisters.
A trip here is a good contrast to the extreme business and dash of Salamanca. [edit text] [editors]
