Travel guide to Colmenar

Colmenar is one of the most westerly of the white villages in the Axarquía area east of the main road from Málaga to most of the world other than the Costa del Sol. As a village it doesn't have much by way of distinct features to distinguish it from others but this doesn't go against it. The roads go with extraordinary steepness to the church at the top of the village which is largely composed of dazzlingly white houses. You could wish you had found it before there was so much new building and when estate agents advertised exclusively in Spanish.

However Colmenar retains one asset completely unspoilt; this is its location across the Montes de Málaga from the city [of Málaga.] This is the route of a spectacularly beautiful road with pine forests and exquisite views of valleys and, on the south side, over the Costa del Sol. Even a major detractor of this coast can appreciate it from this distance and angle.
There is no bus over this road, although Colmenar is linked by bus to Málaga. [edit text] [editors]
