Travel guide to Gerona

Girona - view of the old town

Gerona has traditionally not been particularly well regarded as a good venue by overseas tourists, most of the large number who rolled out of planes at the airport getting straight into tourist buses for the coast. Until recently there wasn't even a bus link between the airport and the city.
In fact Gerona's old city is a fabulous place, its cathedral holding the ancient Creation Tapestry which makes even the Lady and the Unicorn at the Cluny Museum in Paris seem quite ordinary by comparison.
The old Jewish Quarter is of great interest and leads up to the cathedral, hwich has a single aisle of huge width.
From just above here the Paseo Arqueológico provides splendid views over numerous churches below. Also to be seen are the Arab Baths. The bus station has routes to Besalu, Ripoll and other fine places. [edit text] [editors]
