Travel guide to Grazalema
Grazalema is one of the pueblos blancos [white villages] of Andalucia, situated between Ronda and Úbrique. Even stopping there on the bus between these two larger places would make you want to return and stay. The impression you gain then is that it is almost a hilltop village. However, when you do spend some time there, you quickly realised that the mountains, actually named the Sierra de Grazalema, are much foreshortened in your initial image and that it's still a fair old walk to the top. Even the road goes well above the village on its way to Zahara de la Sierra, passing a reserve for vultures on the way.
The main activity at grazalema must be walking, two spectacularly good walks being to Benomahoma via the Pinsapar, an area where the rare Spanish fir still predominates, giving a blueish tinge to the forest and the walk to the Salto del Cabrero [Goatherd's Leap]. [edit text]  [editors]
