St Lucia is a small Caribbean island totalling 610 sq km. Its capital city is Castries, which is situated in a natural harbour; that changed hands between the English and French fourteen times. With the English finally seizing control resulting in the official language being English however most locals speak broken French.
St Lucia is a wonderful island, blessed with many natural wonders, such as its most famous landmark the Pitons. These twin volcanic peaks (Grand Piton and Petite Piton), rise over half a mile from the sea on the west coast near the village of Soufriere. There is the also a drive-in volcano of Mount Soufriere and Marigot Bay that was the setting for the original Dr. Doolittle movie. Its also nice driving through the countryside and seeing all the banana plantations, for miles and miles, on your way to the picturesque fishing village of Soufriere. [edit text][editors]
