St Vincent is the largest island of the St Vincent Grenadines which are a constellation of 33 islands and inlets located 20 miles south of St Lucia and part of the Windward group of the Caribbean. Owing to its location, St Vincent is prone to hurricanes, from July to November (during the wet season). The island has a lovely tropical climate cooled by Trade Winds, with an average tempature of 32 degrees centigrade. Originally owned by France, it was ceded to the Britain in the 1700s.
The economy is dependent on tourism mainly from cruise ships and agriculture; the cash crop is bananas.
In Kingstown, the Capital is pretty, but there is not much to do. There are two main churches St. George's Cathedral which has very colorful stained-glass windows and an attractive churchyard; as well as the Cathedral of Ascension which has a blend of Gothic, Baroque and Romanesque styles of architecture.
