Hi everybody?

I am wondering why almost nobody is using the forum on globosapiens.net

We have so many active members and so much great articles but posts in the forum are really rare. So.. yeah.. why? Is there a forum missing, or is to complicated to use it? Posting new topics and all other stuff is done on the menue on the left (just under forum) So depending on where you are inside the forum this menue is changing.

Please let me know if you have any wishes about the forum or about any ideas you have. Just reply to this message and I will get back to it shortly.

Thanx,

Andy

Andy,

I think with news and forums like the one from lonely planet your forum does not add that much to "the internet experience" as the rest of your site does.

Cheers,

Maurice

hmmm.. it is fully functional. I think it is only the topics and the amount of users missing. I can set up new forums on a special topic you guys would like to talk about, thats no problem. Its just that somebody has to start it and people come back frequently to reply and keep the discussion going on.

Regarding the functionality I do not see any disadvantage to the other sites. The design is fully integrated into the globo look and feel. Maybe it is a bit unclear on how to post topics since all the functionality is on the left site in the menu.

We'll see, maybe (hopfully) we will get it running .. was a lot of work to integrate it into globo :-)

I just a quick mention in another forum but i'll add it again here.

As someone who's in & out of a few forums I couldn't at first find the reply / new topic options. I was looking at the bottom of the page. Especially in forums, the reply is the next step in the thread. So why not put it after the last message?

thats a great idea. As you can see this is now implemented as well as a new topic button.

Enjoy

hi andy

I was desperately searching for the reply or post button also... ended up discovering the "quote" button almost by accident:

- I may want to edit the quote and shorten it! is that possible?

- if your button says "quote" and the rollover says "reply with a quote" why not have the button say "reply with a quote"? and delete the rollover? you have the space and it saves me the time to search for the button. also, it would be better to have "post a reply" "quote and reply" both there, again, you have the space....

- on the forum side I agree that the forum isn't the best part of your site. The photos are definitely - I am glad to see your site becoming more photo oriented (once the uploading becomes a bit less tedious, hint hint).

I used the forum only because I wanted to give feedback on the photo uploading, not because I wanted other people's experiences... for those I go and look around at the travel stories! I don't think it is a question of needing MORE topics... as is, I found it hard to discover where to submit my report.

- Why do you need so many pages for these things? I prefer scrolling the distance of two or three pages and the constant page clicking becomes really really annoying. I would recommend you look at the topics and instead of trying to put more and more (featuritis) look at trying to simplify what you have, make interaction structures wider instead of deeper... it will certainly help clarify the experience of posting. Maybe, once you have the people you want, it will encourage forum use.

best, katbat

hello all,

I am just a newbie here but it looks just fine to me! You have some great pics to entice travel plans, tips and guides--------don't see a problem so far.

Is anyone going to Australia soon, and where is the best place to go for beaches? I have been looking at this island resort------do you know much about it: Norfolk Island Accommodations; ;norfolk island accommodations

Andy,

Any thoughts about maybe adding a feature that would allow members to be notified when new postings are added under a specific Forum? Some of us are not on every day - I know that if I am traveling on business or get real busy, I can go whole weeks without logging in. That said, if I knew there was a posting on North or South America, I would be happy to hop on and respond.

I belong to an expert panel for a software forum. I am notified on all postings for certain modules of the software. That seems to generate activity because users see the value in posting on that Forum. They almost always have a response within 24 hours.

An example would be that I posted in the Asia forum for anyone with experience taking the night train between Bangkok and Chain Mai. I didn't get a single response but if that had gone to members from Thailand or members who had been to Thailand or to Asia, I might have gotten a response.

Just a thought.

Eire

Hello Eire,

your suggestion comes in the right time :-) There is a major update coming to the forum section within the next days. I am already working on it since several weeks. I hope to get at least a closed beta version out until next Friday.

Best regards,

Andy
