There are still hundreds of major cities which do not have a "destination report" (short description). There are many countries and dependencies that do not show a single pic, report, tip or any other contribution at GLOBO yet often members live there or have visited!

We could do a campaign, contest or even competition to fill these gaps?

A good way to start is to look at ones own list of photos and check that a "destination report" is written for each place.

Rudi, it is a good idea to have a kind of campaign to fill-up the gaps.

Also I found today that there are many informations about a town, but you get different results when you look for Kiew, Kiev or Kyiv. There might be some clean-up necessary and to have a kind of database for the different ways to spell a place's name, even if there is only one present in correct english language.

Joe, You are right many cities are mentioned more than once. As we are allowed to write only one report about a city it is a good thing that some cities are in the data base with more than one name.

I agree whole heartedly, people from different places spell things differently.. I have a problem finding places because I'm not spelling them exactly the way they are on the Database.. perhaps it should be a "sounds" like database where one could pick the word they want.

Perhaps a good idea to fill this gap should be giving extra points for new destinations lacking in Globo data, for instance:

- report (option a): 10 extra points for first report for a new country in Globo data

- report (option b): 5 extra points for first report for a new city in Globo data

- picture (option a):: 2 extra points for first picture for a new country in Globo data.

- picture (option b): 1 extra point for first picture for a new town in Globo data.

- travel tip (option a): 2 extra points for first travel tip for a new country in Globo data.

- travel tip (option b): 1 extra point for first travel tip for a new town in Globo data.

I don't think that would be a good idea, because maybe people would write about places where they have never been, which means, they would just be inputing stuff they probably found on the web..

Don't forget our heroes at GLOBO that have really been to strange places and never told us about those. After years at GLOBO I found that 99% of members are honest and there is little fear of those point collectors. I would support some kind of contest or extra points for new, first or unique material at GLOBO. Some members have in the past submitted hundreds of hotel "tips" but I know they could not have stayed at so many in one city, such members were easily noticeable and tolerated, tame! Doesn't really matter, let us call them "word of ear" recommendations as entries :-) RR

As for me some points for finding spots which are new to the data base are ok if checked for reliability. This check happens anyway for new spots you currently cannot select.

An extra point for the first picture related to a selectable spot would also be ok although one normally reports a new spot when trying to upload the first pic and got temporarily stopped by the missing spot entry in the data base.

I have another interpretation about Mind the Gap posted by Rudi:

I understand that what Glosospiens needs is to fill with reports all the countries of the world, and with Pictures and Travel Tips the most important cities of our planet. In this way, anyone looking for information or pictures regarding any country could find it at Globo.

For instance, when you open in Reports all the available countries, you realize that there are no reports for countries such as Libya, Swaziland, Tajikistan, Moldavia…

And in the Pictures section, we do not have any pictures about important cities, such as Kazan, Leon, Aachen, Kinshasa… and a long etcetera.

Although it is another good idea to receive 1 point also for places not listed in Globo data.

These extra points would be like a recognition for improving the system and completing all the destinations in Globo data.

Trying to write information about a particular place taken from Internet just to sum one point is completely absurd. I am sure practically all the members in Globosapiens we are here for fun, for learning, even for a game, but not to collect 1 point as main goal.

I'm sure with most the members we are here to learn and fun ... but I'm sure that the point system has spoiled Globosapiens. I liked Globosapiens because it was about connecting with people who HAVE BEEN to those unique places in the world..

tell me, what is the point of a member writing a blurb about a place when they have never been? just to get a point What about when the time comes when someone wants to go to that place and they contact the member who wrote about it? what can that member say they just wrote it from the internet or guide book there is nothing special about that!!

Jorge I would contact you about the places you write about because I know you have been. But I would be upset at wasting my time trying to get information from someone who has never been.

I hope that make sense.. It goes back to the post of making Globosapiens a useful site.

If for example there is no info about Libya, instead of writing about it from someone else's information (guide or internet) wouldn't that make our more adventurous travelers think about going there in order to get information for people?

Does that make sense?
