I very often find excellent pictures uploaded with very little added comment and I spend quite some time trying to find information on the subject. Could there be a way of encouraging members to add some pertinent comment? not all of us have had the privilege of visiting all these wonderful places and I sometimes find it a bit frustrating to have little or no information on them. Some members have got this exactly right though and I applaud their efforts, any thoughts on this? regards from a newcomer, Tony. (jacko1).

I agree with Tony, although I know I error on the other extreme. Because we share so many pictures from really unusual places, and these are some of Globo's most valuable contribution, it helps to have some context as to what is being captured and what makes it unique.

I would like to add a further comment in that without the sometimes thoughtful and informative comments to a picture it can be just another holiday snap when quite a lot could be so much more, after all, if somebody has taken the trouble to compose a photograph and upload it to their gallery how little extra effort is it let us all know something about it?.
I agree with Tony and Eire. While "a picture is worth a thousand words" if it is a sunset or a flower, when it is a photo of an object, building, or monument I'd like to know a little history about it. I try to do that with my pics because I feel it enhances how the picture is viewed. I often ask the person posting the pic further questions but it is often difficult to know if the person answers. I sometimes forget about it by the next day! I wish there was a way to send a little notice that our questions had been answered but I suppose that would become too difficult. Does anyone else have any other ideas about this?

Hi there,
I am not sure if I have a firm view on the comments. It depended on a picture with me, and on the mood I was in, I guess. Although I tend to agree with both arguments, i.e. more comments vs picture tells a lot. Not sure with which one I agree more... I know, I am not very helpful here right now!
Regarding questions... I have tried to ask and answer questions starting with the persons name, just like some other members have, which I think helps, when browsing through the many picture comments to find the one is addressed to me.
Kindest regards
Krys

Krys has made a good point in a reply starting with the member name, I don't always do this but will in future as it obviously makes it easier to locate. My original request for ideas on how to encourage members to give some info seems to have been lost in the discussion between members who already do this anyway!!. Any comments?.
I have to agree that a brief note on what the picture is is always helpful. I mean, really, how many crystal blue lake or gorgeous sunrise pictures are there here. An essay isn't necessary, but a sentence never killed anyone IMHO.

I think that comment into a comprehensive picture is needed when object is not known. If you have information to encourage you to visit the country, cities .... In Poland, a lot of beautiful places not visited, and I want to show them on Globo.
