Hi Andy,

Any chance of including shopping or shops &/or handicrafts in the topics for travel guides?

Cheers,

Kerrie

that is actually a good idea as long as the place is unique! for example you can find a million stores that sell trinkets but the odd one will sell something totally different.

ie: Hurghada, Egypt... check out the MeyaMeya store on the main strip. The owner(Sayid) sells clay figurines he imports from Cairo. They are all handmade and very non-touristy.

makes a wonderful gift for someone.

Hi!

Well! that's an interesting idea.

Backpacking you never want to carry to much so is specially difficult to chose when to buy something ... usually is at the end of your journey but .... so many timeswhat happens is...

You see something really nice but you don't buy it cause is the beggining of your journey and you wait to the last days and look for something similar at the big city handicraft shops ... but then you can find what you saw before.

Exemple: The best Chinesse drawings are in the Guangxi province, specially in YangShuo (Cause their scenery), and don't expect to find something similar in Beijing the last day. ;)

The traditional chinesse dresses are best in Dali or Shanghai old town.

or save time looking for Tumis or handicrafts in Lima if you know exactly where to go!!

Hope it helps.

Dani!

I agree, the best "fabric" to buy would be in Bobodilassu Burkina Fasu and in Djenna, Mali. The best silver in Bamako.

I found many nice things throughout Moroc but found it would be difficult to travel via back pack for the rest of my trip lugging these things around.

It would be great to know of little places that sell "little" things that are backpack friendly... or portable.
