Hi everybody,

I have noticed, that lots of new members are signing up, but almost none of them is creating photo albums, nore publishing reports. Has anybody an idea why? I hope everything is alright with the functionality. Please let me know if there are any technical dificulties.

Andy

I have signed up recently. Writing takes up time! I have almost finished an article but I like it to be complete and accurate and my original writing. If I were to copy and paste from articles on the internet I would have published many articles by now, but I don't think that's what you want. The same holds good for pictures. My article will be posted soon.

Hello Marianne,

thanx for your reply. You are right, its not about doing a "copycat" from other sites. We are trying to create a unique oportunity for travelers to exchange their ideas, experiences and fun they had. The idea is to provide you with space and functionality - a platform - to create your travel page without technical knowledge or programming skills.

It picked up really good, but recently it made the impression, that only the "pioneer" members work on their sites. Which made me think if peole really want to have such a platform?!

Maybe you have a suggestion on how to motivate the real new members (about 15 singing up every day).

Regards,

andy

Andy,

As you know even pioneers have some time off... but I am glad to be back and active.

I think it is a motivational problem. Maybe you need to have new member stuff on your first page more. As you know us oldies have a higher ranking in the scorelists. Motivate our new ones by involving them more ... that usualy helps...

Anyway, I'm off. need to prepare for my next holiday in Egypt.

Cheers,

Maurice

Andy,

I have been doing a bit of thinking. The unique selling point of this site is that it gives members the opportunity to post many pictures whereas many other travel communities offer this to a more limited extent. May be you should more focus on this.

Before signing up I asked one of the globo members, whom I know through another travel community, if articles and pictures can be edited and removed when they have been posted. I could not find any info about it on the site. Or if it is there I overlooked it, which means it is not in a prominent position.

It was not very clear to me what an article should look like so I read a few to find out the right format. I didn't know and still don't know if I can use HTML in de body of my articles.

My suggestions would be:

Add FAQ and an example of an article and how to post it, especially people who are new to a community need this information.

When you see that new people have joined send them a personal e-mail, welcoming them and stimulate them to write. This may be followed up by another one when they haven't been active for say at least two weeks.

I hope this is of some help to you.

Hi Andy,

Maybe it's a case of people visiting Globosapiens and being inspired to travel but have not travelled as yet!? It could be an information gathering exercise for them. They may like surfing the site and voting on reports and piccies etc but feel they don't have the "know-how" to write an article.

Personally, I think that even an article on their home town no matter how small would be interesting. So come on all you new globies get those keyboards tapping it's a great site and all new input is interesting. :-)

Cheers,

Kerrie

Marianne: I can see your point. The gallery has been the first module on GLOBO, so it might be most suffisticated and builds the major USP. The FAQ will come up.

About the sending emails on not active, this is another approach which is possible, but it is important for me not to "spam" the unsers email boxes with to much GLOBO emails. I think this is also an USP on the site, the email adresses are save and people do not have to fear to get spammed since your email adress is never displayed on the site.

There will be a relaunch comming up in November carrying all those ideas (FAQ, better navigation, friendly colors and ... a chat) So all your ideas will be considered for the GLOBO version 2.0

Kerrie:

You are right about the hometown. In fact this was the basic idea off the report engine. People should write about the places they know and provide travellers to their place with unique information from locals. It's just picking up verry slow.

Maurice:

The first page has definatelly to carry more information on new content and new members, I will have this considered in the new version.

I personally find it difficult to see the point why the visitors are climbing up so fast (we do have a 15 % growth rate PER WEEK! But it does not convert into more members beeing loged in. The reason why I do hold back the chatroom is because I fear that it will be empty most of the time. 1 Year ago we did have almost the same amount of members online (left lower box) per day as we do have them now. Plan was to wait till we have above 20 members online in average, but this seems not to work. I think there is a major problem inside the navigation or a motivation problem which keeps members away from beeing to often on GLOBO. But maybe its just the critical mass which is missing (like not enough members to keep it interesting).

What do you think about all this?

Interesting that besides Marianne it's still the same "old" globies who are keen on this discussion.

Where is everybody? :-0

Hello!

Maybe I should at least let you know why I haven´t written any reports yet or uploaded any pictures: It´s quite easy: I don´t have an own computer at home and the only way for me to get access on the internet is via Internet Cafe (the don´t have scanners here) or at work (shouldn´t do that to often if I don´t wanna loose my job ; )

Maybe I can change this some day.

Anyway I wanna thank all the members for their great reports and pictures!

Hasta luego Pepperoni

Hello Pepperoni,

thats verry interesting. It is a verry dificlt task to find out why members work on their sites, while others don't. I see your point :-) But whats with all the others? This year their have been more digital cameras soled then analog ones. So there should be a request on such services like GLOBOsapiens is offering. What drives a member to upload pictures, wirte reports? If I get more understanding of this reasons, I could help to lead GS into this direction, which would benefit everybody.

Currently there is the idea to create a contest which will have the goal to brake into the top 5 member list. What would a member appreciate as a price to set reching this list as a goal? Maybe we could start a kind of "whichlist"?

Everybody is welcome to make suggestions
