Geneva travel tips

CERN
CERN is not only the fruit of Dan Brown's imagination in his "Angels and Demons" famous novel. It does exist as the European Organization for Nuclear Research. It houses the future Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a particle accelerator which will probe deeper into matter than ever before. It will be switched on in 2007. Free visits of this giant lab are possible and highly recommended to those who are interested in physics. For further information about visits, refer to the specific web site : http://public.web.cern.ch/Public/Content/Chapters/VisitCERN/WhatIsVisit/WhatIsVisit-en.html. more

ITU complex
ITU (International Telecommunications Union) is a very interesting buildings complex in downtown Geneva, integrated in the United Nations Organization, that I visited by suggestion of a friend of mine in Barcelona, who is a radio Ham aficionado. I arrived there walking (about ten minutes) from the Geneva central railway station. The staffs are extremely friendly; they showed me around the buildings premises and gave me several postcards and brochures in Spanish (one of their six international languages together with Arabic, Chinese, French, English and Russian) as gifts, explaining me the importance of this organization in the world. Radio Ham enthusiasts have their centre there. more
