Bursa travelogue picture
I only went to Bursa because I was too tired for a long bus ride, however, I am glad to have stopped here. I ended up staying for 5 days. This is a simple town but with a great 'flavor' to it. There are some great bath houses here and inexpensive massages as well. The Green Mosque is nice, but not off the charts with beauty. The town seems to have a very mellow feel and people seem to live a relaxed lifestyle.

Favourite spots:
By far, the highlight was going to an Ottoman village about 45 minutes outside of town. We were the only visitors that day and I would even stretch that to say that week. We were stared at for being obvious foreigners, but not in a bad way. The people here live a very simple life. We were greeted with big smiles at the restaurant and treated very well.

What's really great:
At the Ottoman village, hike through the main street in town (cobble stoned and only wide enough for one car to go down...there are no cars in town, however!) and hike up the hill. Stay on the main road until in turns to a little trail. Keep walking out of town. You can have a great hike going through farmland. We got a little hungry but HEY!, there were apples growing everywhere. Not sure if they would care if we ate, but nonetheless, they tasted great.

Accommodations:
Trust your Lonely Planet (I used Rough Guide which normally isn't as good or accurate, but it worked fine for me).

Nightlife:
There is one we went to, but very low key. We met some local guys that took us out on the town. Fun time.

Hangouts:
They are around, but be sure to check out the sheesha shops (tobacco water pipes)

I enjoyed reading this and it reminded me of the time when we were in Bursa. Few tourists, which I like. So you are a Lonely Planet fan. I still think that the Rough Guide is more detailed and less biased. What other guidebooks do you use?
