My aunt in Cal. has a house on the coast. We stayed there couple of times since I was 2 years old, we usually go to the USA every 5 years or so. The house is located near Fort Bragg, in a small village called Westport. That's a nice small town with just one shop and a restaurant/hotel. It's a very quiet village and very nice for relaxing.
Favourite spots:
The coast there has nice rocks to climb on, the 'beaches' are nice but the water there is very cold! Near Fort Bragg is doesn't get that hot in summer as in the rest of Cal. so its nice to stay there when it gets too hot elsewhere.
What's really great:
The coast and the mountains. Fort Bragg is also a nice village with great sea food.
Sights:
The coast, sometimes sea lions can be seen or even whales. We haven't seen any whales.
Accommodations:
There are some hotels along the coast but als guesthouses and B&B's. You'll easily find one when you're driving there.
Restaurants:
There are some very good sea food restaurants there! We dined at the Pelikan-inn in Westport some times, a small but very nice restaurant.
Other recommendations:
Route one is great! One of the oldest roads in the USA and gives you a nice vieuw of the Californian coast and gets you through great small villages.
