Watching Whales

  8 votes

During our stay in South Africa we also went to Hermanus, a small village near Cape Town. Hermanus is a small fishermans village which is well know among South African tourists, they go there during the summer when the heat in the inlands is getting to much. The coast between Cape Town and Hermanus is said to have the highest shark concentration in the world, haven’t checked the fact. We haven’t seen any sharks there but we sure have seen some fish there! If you watch the ocean carefully you can spot some whales there and if you are very patient you may even see some dolphins, we were lucky enough to see both! Around Hermanus the Protea can bee seen, this is the national flower of South Africa. It is a beautiful big red flower. Hermanus is near Cape Town so you can easily visit the city.

Favourite spots:
The coast has great rocks where you can spend some time climbing the rocks or just watching whales. This was very nice. Hermanus has also very nice souvenir shops and some nice fish restaurants.

What's really great:
As earlier said the coastline is very very beautiful, it is full of rocks so perfect for some climbing or just relaxing. We went in july so it was winter there, which means rain time there. We sure had some rain, and also a storm, but that didn’t bother our stay there!

Whales! it takes some time, and they're gone soon but when you see one it's worth the time!

don't know, we stayed at the home of some South African friends

Hermanus has some great seafood restaurants, try one!

Other recommendations:
There's a little market next to the parking lot, where you can buy some real African crafts work.
